Whew! What a day!

Whew! What a day!

The freezing rain is finally gone.   It’s been raining all day, a freezing rain that has coated the trees and grass with ice. Branches kept falling on the house, sounding like thunder and scaring the cats. The kids were home from school, driving each other crazy. We went outside after one of those noisy incidents expecting a huge branch that had fallen not just on the roof, but through it. But it turned out to be a relatively small…

Sigh. I’ve given up on NaNoWriMo

Sigh. I’ve given up on NaNoWriMo

At least for this year. Despite my kids (especially the Girl) pushing me to write, I just had too much on my plate with the parents coming and the holiday and all. So, next year I’ll find something new to write about. I hope to work on this other fic little by little and complete it; it’s probably a clichéed premise by now, but it would be fun to put my own spin on it.   The visit with my…

Well, I’ve finally updated….

Well, I’ve finally updated….

Both of my fanfics are updated. I updated three chapters of Overtures and one of The White Winds. Now maybe my NaNo muse will get to work and inspire me. The Girl keeps pestering me about it, especially since she drew a dragon for my story.   It’s a tad difficult at the moment, though, since my parents are coming for Thanksgiving this weekend and I have a lot of housecleaning left to do. The kids helped a whole lot this…

NaNoWriMo has begun!

NaNoWriMo has begun!

Well, I hoped to put up my NaNoWriMo participant icon here, but MSN spaces won’t let me. NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. I’ve signed up for it and the goal is to write a 50,000 novel in thirty days. I’m off to a good start: 2080 words today so far. I’m doing a modern day fantasy, plus I started chapter 12 of Overtures.   Report cards came home today, and it was as I expected. Both boys had all As,…

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

We’ve hardly had any trick or treaters come to our door tonight and we bought lots and lots of candy to give out. I’m afraid that the kids will be taking chocolate in their lunches for the next two weeks! For the first time, we let the boys go out trick or treating. Boy #1 went out dressed like a mailman (surprise, surprise!) and Boy #2 went as a cowboy, wearing the hat and guns he got in New Mexico. …

Warm at last!

Warm at last!

The thermostat on the heater hasn’t been working for the past couple of days, so I reset the stupid thing this evening and now it’s working! All day long it was in the low sixties (possibly lower) inside the house. I was so cold I made and drank two pots of coffee (4-cup coffee maker). That might have been the reason I had heartburn later in the afternoon.   We went to the Harvest Happening at church this evening. Hot dogs with…

News from New Mexico

News from New Mexico

Hubby’s father called yesterday evening and told us he’d gotten the poetry book with Boy #1’s poem in it. Then he talked for a bit with the Girl (the boys were at AWANA) and with Hubby. While he was talking with Hubby, he turned the phone over to MIL, who also talked with Hubby (I wasn’t upset or anything about not speaking with her; I’m usually the one she ends up talking to when she calls during the day).  When…

Finally! A “Terrific Kid”!

Finally! A “Terrific Kid”!

Son #2’s school has quarterly “award” ceremonies where they give out certificates for perfect attendance, citizenship, and the two honor rolls (A/B and All A). The local Kiwanis club also comes in and gives out an award called a “Terrific Kid” award. I’m not sure how many they give out per grade, but last year my boys, as wonderful as they are (and terrific as their teachers thought they were), didn’t get one all year. At each little award ceremony…

Autumn is upon us!

Autumn is upon us!

Cheating here, cross posting from my live journal.  Cold night, cool day. No school for the kids so they played outside for most of it.  Hubby has turned the furnace on to see if the pilot light remained on during the summer. (It has.) Now to wait for things to warm up a bit in here. My parents called to ask if it would be better for them to come down at Thanksgiving or Christmas. They’re bringing a couple of…

Son #1 is now a published poet!

Son #1 is now a published poet!

We just received our copies of The Teacher’s Selection Anthology of Poetry. This particular book focuses on fifth graders’ poetry and our volume contains poetry from across the southeast, from Maryland to Alabama. Son #1’s poem is the only one from his school, and only one of two from Greenville. I know there were other poems nominated, but there were probably parents who didn’t return the permission slip to the publisher. We did, and ordered two copies of the book,…
