News from New Mexico

Hubby’s father called yesterday evening and told us he’d gotten the poetry book with Boy #1’s poem in it. Then he talked for a bit with the Girl (the boys were at AWANA) and with Hubby. While he was talking with Hubby, he turned the phone over to MIL, who also talked with Hubby (I wasn’t upset or anything about not speaking with her; I’m usually the one she ends up talking to when she calls during the day).  When the phone call was through, Hubby turned to me and told me that his folks were moving to MI at the end of the week.

This was a surprise. They had purchased a mobile home not far from where HBro #2 lives and also close to where Hubby’s late sister’s family (with the new wife and baby) live. They had talked about moving here at one time, but with FIL developing glaucoma in both eyes, and MIL afraid of the traffic volume around here, they decided that rural MI was a better fit. The plan had been to move partially next spring, then permanently later on. That was changed when they found a buyer for their little house in NM; and the permanent move was scheduled for the spring. But it seems that they both came to the same conclusion: that they should move to MI permanently as soon as possible, while the weather was relatively good and they were both able-bodied enough to make the drive. It’s a wise decision, and one my MIL had been thinking about for a while (but hadn’t broached to my FIL, thinking he’d veto it).

This means that HBro #1 will have to scramble to change some of his flights for when he and his family come to visit next January, but it will cut down on the flight time since they’ll only have two places to go instead of three. This may also make it easier for us to visit as well since most all the family will be in one place.
