Weird Halloween

Weird Halloween

Well, this has been a strange Halloween. The boys went out trick-or-treating for the first time; they were out for a half-hour because that’s all that Hubby could stand. Boy #1 went out at Queequeg from Moby Dick; he used his Caliban costume from last year’s Shakespeare play (a leopard-print poncho), my winter hat (a brown thing with a curled brim and a highish crown), and a "harpoon" made from a broom handle and tin foil. His sister painted a checkerboard "tattoo" on one side of his face. Boy #2 went out as a pirate, wearing my father’s tricorne hat, a sash I provided, his brother’s wooden scimitar… and the red superhero cape that his Nana made for him and sent last week.

We were one of only two houses on our street giving out candy. Seriously! We had two trick-or-treaters show up, and that was at the same time. According to the Girl, most everyone was going trick-or-treating in the rich parts of town. Our neighbors to the right of us, the ones with two little boys, took their boys elsewhere, too, to trick-or-treat with cousins (I can see that as a reason, really). I have no idea what we’re going to do with all the Starbursts and Skittles we bought; maybe donate them to the church’s kids’ program? I guess we’ll see.

NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow. I’m looking forward to it and dreading it at the same time. My brain has been fried over the past couple of days and I’ve been dealing with some neuropathic pain and neuralgia. Probably brought it on myself by not eating right. I was hoping to get another chapter of The White Winds under my belt before the month started, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. Did get some stuff written for the RP, and I’ll update the websites with the caption contest winners and all. I’m just feeling rather burned out at the moment. Not a good way to start the month.

More as the muse moves.
