Just a continuing sense of both malaise and frustration, mostly over my writing mojo and the continuing disability in my hands that makes the mechanics of typing worse as time goes by. It’s gotten to the point where I now use a split keyboard to keep my fingers from hitting the wrong keys. (Helps some, but my left pinky will keep hitting the z key!) Turning our eldest’s old room into a library/game room (and sometime sewing room) took up some weeks last fall. I joined a fiber arts groups at two different library branches, which gets me out of the house. But other than a few drabbles and a Christmas challenge, not much writing.

I think the writing mojo malaise stems from a decided lack of reading. Oh, sure, I read fanfic and some original fic online, but not published books. Not in my genre. Not for a long while. Until recently. When I found Libby.

Our library system is county-wide, with branches in every town and several of the unincorporated areas. The branches are modern, most built on the same template. The Events calendar has something going on for every age, every weekday. And they have subscriptions to Libby and Hoopla for ebooks, magazines, and audiobooks. Hoopla also offers comics, TV shows, movies, and music–I usually borrow comics here. (Freegal also offers music.) All I need is my library card.

So, I’ve been borrowing a lot of books lately and putting some on hold for when they become available. Right now, my Libby TBR list contains:

Small Town, Big Magic by Hazel Beck

Unfortunate by Kailey Bright

and My Fair Frauds by Lee Kelly

I just finished The Keeper of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan, and before that, The Grace of Wild Things and Agnes Aubert’s Mystical Cat Shelter, both by Heather Fawcett. I really like Fawcett’s writing and recommend both of these books along with her Emily Wilde Faerie trilogy, which I’ve also read.

And, if you’re interested in what I’m reading online that’s original fiction, I suggest The Gift of Perfect Knowledge by BookmarkBookworm on AO3. And Super Supportive by Sleyca on Royal Road. The first story is complete; the second updates every five days. Both are superhero stories.

With me, it’s almost always superheroes.

Except when it’s not.

The Barry Manilow song, “I’d Really Love To See You Tonight”, now becomes an earworm in my head, if no one else’s.
