It was sad but, to be truthful, it&#8217;s also a relief. We&#8217;ll miss him. The second day, not so much. So, day three saw me starting to write. \u00a0Today has been far better in terms of getting words down and so, you all get an excerpt!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Silence reigned over the table for a few long, uncomfortable minutes. Liam cleared his throat. \u201cI am gratified, Dr. MacLeod, to know that there is a Roman parish in the area. I was concerned for Siobhan\u2019s continued catechism and eventual confirmation in the Church. Where is his parish and what is its name?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. MacLeod coughed and took a deep breath prior to speaking but it was Siobhan who spoke first.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWas it St. Matthew\u2019s?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MacLeod looked startled, as did Sir Charles, Lady Geneve, and Victor. \u201cWhy yes, young lady. It was St. Matthew\u2019s. How did you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Head down, Siobhan spoke in a near whisper. \u201cI saw the church on the way here. Young Duff told me about it.\u201d She glanced up at MacLeod. \u201cI am ever so sorry about your father.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you, young lady.\u201d MacLeod\u2019s voice was somber. \u201cHe died many years ago.\u201d Turning his attention to Liam, he continued, \u201cI am afraid you\u2019ll have to find someone else to continue your niece\u2019s religious education, Reverend. The nearest Roman parish died with my father. No one in Rome has seen fit to fill the position since then.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s haunted.\u201d Siobhan\u2019s declaration was flat and unequivocal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do you know?\u201d asked Mahdi. His tone was one of cautious skepticism; his eyes considered her from beneath half-closed lids.<\/p>\n<p>Siobhan paled, opalescent skin a stark contrast to her dark hair. \u201cI see\u2014\u201d She faltered, her gaze downcast.
