Finally feeling like writing

Finally feeling like writing

…or at least editing. Son #2 has finally achieved another level of adulthood: a driver’s license and a car of his own. This means the Girl doesn’t have to take him to work for 4 a.m. and I don’t have to pick him up in the early afternoon. It also means the Hubby can take our car more often instead of waiting for the bus. With COVID-19 still rampaging through the country and not being eligible for a vaccine (yet),…

Asking for advice!

Asking for advice!

I’ve just put up two one-shot stories under the collection title of Promptings. It’s under Short Stories. But my short stories aren’t a collection; they are actually multi-chapter stories, anywhere from two to nine chapters. So, should the one-shots be collected under short stories or as individual stories under One-Shots? Please give me some advice, either here, on Twitter, or on Tumblr. Many thanks!

Welp, that was a wash.

Welp, that was a wash.

For the first time since 2005, I did not make 50K at NaNoWriMo. Whether it was the lack of in-person events (during which I always get lots of words), my emotional state, a lack of inspiration, or the pressure of household duties, my total word count was 13,374. Maybe 2021 will be better for NaNoWriMo.

A little obstacle…

A little obstacle…

Someone (Willow) decided I shouldn’t write on my new NaNoWriMo novel tonight. I was originally going to do a series of short stories, one for each day, but I’m already behind word count-wise. Willow is not helping.

2020 can go away now.

2020 can go away now.

I try to keep this blog tilted toward writing and not personal things, even though it started out as personal way back when. But… things have been hard for about a month and a half now and I just have to share it somewhere. First off, my mom lost her battle with Alzheimer’s and end-stage renal failure on September 16th. She died at my sister’s house, attended by hospice nurses, and with my dad, her husband of just 60 years,…

Running a blog ain’t easy.

Running a blog ain’t easy.

For the past few weeks, perhaps even months, this site has been pretty much inaccessible. I have no idea what caused it in the first place but I was getting errors in my Jetpack plug-in after a WordPress update. It was driving me nuts! I poked Jetpack. I poked my webhost. I was like a human-sized porcupine to those brave folks. I deactivated all my plug-ins. I removed my browser extensions. Finally, just tonight, I figured it out, and with…

The muse awakens!

The muse awakens!

You’d think that, in this time of shelter-in-place orders, I’d be writing up a storm, editing my work, finishing my works-in-progress. You’d be wrong. I’ve been sewing–making masks and finishing a very old quilt project. I’ve been playing video games. Doing chores. Gardening. Worrying about my parents. Chauffeuring the essential workers in my family. I’ve been ordering groceries as my kids won’t let me shop. I finally broke quarantine the other day, after the hair salons opened. But I haven’t…

Forgot about this little one-shot.

Forgot about this little one-shot.

Among Thunderbirds fans, both in the UK and worldwide, September 30th is “Thunderbirds Day”. It commemorates the first airing of “Trapped in the Sky” back in 1965. For many fanfiction writers, October is “Whumptober”, where the entire month is dedicated to stories whumping on (or beating up) a fandom’s main characters. I wasn’t thinking of Whumptober when I wrote the one-shot, but it may have had some small influence. I just thought about why a day might have been named…

50038!

50038!

I just realize that the NaNoWriMo Word Count Widget no longer exists! Because, if it did, it would tell you that I reached the goal of 50K! Woo hoo! It was a rough last week and a half, trying to catch up when I let things slide so badly. On the 19th, I wrote over 5K, which gave me a good boost, with another 4K the next day. I didn’t make it to too many write-ins (a perk of not…
