Changing horses midstream in NaNoWriMo

Changing horses midstream in NaNoWriMo

What started as an original super-powered rescue squad is now a Thunderbirds fanfiction including a super-powered rescue squad. I’m not giving the Tracy boys super powers; that’s been done, if not always done well. The squad won’t be all girls as romantic foils to the boys; that’s also been done and not well. This will be a mixed gender squad positioning themselves as a rival to IR–with nefarious purposes lurking in the background.  Here’s hoping I can write the whole…

NaNoWriMo 2014 is live!

NaNoWriMo 2014 is live!

Yes, I’m doing NaNoWriMo. No, I’m not writing fan fiction. No, I’m not working on that original fantasy story. Yes, I met my word count today and then some. Yes, I’m a municipal liaison … again. I’m pantsing along (as in, not plotting at all) on a superhero rescue squad story. Think Thunderbirds meets the Justice League. Or the X-Men. Or the Avengers. (Marvel version, not Steed and partner. In my house, you have to be specific.) So far I have a…

And we’re live!

And we’re live!

Opening Day has come! I’ve created a redirect from my old site to this one, so anyone going there will be brought here instead. I’ve started posting the novels here, beginning with The White Winds. That in itself will take a while, but I can do it chapter by chapter. The latest, all new chapter of Burning Muses is up. I’ll post that at fanfiction.net later this month, probably before NaNoWriMo starts. I’ve also created an Updates box for the…

Yes, I’ve updated a fic!

Yes, I’ve updated a fic!

Just a quick post to say that I’ve updated Burning Muses with a new chapter. I thought this one was finished long ago, but the idea of Scott describing how he dances brought up the Muse of Dance, Terpsichore. So I finally wrote it up after getting a proper hook from a recent family wedding. As you can see, the word count meters at NaNoWriMo have reset. Less than two weeks to go before it starts! I think I’m going…

Finally found an answer!

Finally found an answer!

Seems that one of the plugins, Stealth Publish, is broken and responsible for removing my menu! Maybe now I can go back to Sunspot or use the Awesome_2014 child theme without worrying about losing the menu. Back to the salt mine!

I really wish I knew CSS!

I really wish I knew CSS!

Or actually thought before I acted. First, my primary menu disappeared again. I have no idea why; I’m working in a child theme and all but just like the last time, it went poof! I’ve had to rebuild the verdammt thing all over again! Maybe styling it would help? Might have to try that. Then I stupidly did a bulk action of delete spam to some comments that a non-functioning Askimet dumped in with the real comments. So now I…

I’m writing!

I’m writing!

Started a new chapter in Burning Muses, this time about the muse, Terpsichore.  It’s been percolating for a while but tonight I managed to get it together in a file. I’m sitting on it overnight before tweaking it and sending it off for beta. Maybe this will jump start my writing again. I hope so; it’s been a long, dry patch with no real inspiration.

Still haven’t created that home page update thing, but I have uploaded Mosaic. Still needs a bit of tweaking, but I’ll get to that later. I’ve also recreated my main menu for the umpteenth time. I’m hoping that, since I’m working in a child theme, it will stick this time. Wish there was some way of saving a copy of the menu offline so I can just reload it when necessary. I’ll really need it when I start uploading the…

Updates

Updates

I’ll probably come up with a static updates page on the home page for such things but, for now, this will suffice. Today I finished putting up all the drabbles for my first drabble book, Coffee, Tea and More. If you have no idea what a drabble is, it’s a little story of just 100 words. Not an easy thing where every word has to count! These were written for the Livejournal community 30_beverages and each takes a new prompt…

Some interesting Tumblr blogs

Some interesting Tumblr blogs

I’ve submitted an OC profile–that of Rhea Allison Tracy, from Moonstrike!–to a couple of OC blogs on Tumblr. The latest, Simply Original Characters, seemed to like the profile. She did point out the number of hobbies Rhea has, which I hadn’t even thought about before. The number could be seen as excessive, I guess, given how driven Rhea is as a character. Still, I have her doing at least two of them in the story so far, so I can…
