Latest reading list! June/July 2026

I should probably make this a monthly thing! Much of what I’ve been reading lately has fallen squarely in the romantasy genre with a good bit of it being Young Adult. Once again, impatience sent me to the actual library shelves for some of these books. Latest Reads: The Raven Scholar by Antonia Hodgson This starts out with a young woman exiled by her own brother and continues some years later with a totally different protagonist, one surrounded by the…

I need better sleep hygiene.

I need better sleep hygiene.

Why? Because I’m reading like I read in high school. Lots of books; read until one is finished, no matter how long it is. Six a.m. is no time to go to bed! Since my last post, I’ve finished several series. A lot of romantasy, one YA series that could be classified as sci-fi, and a cozy mystery series, set in North Carolina. I’ve also read YA supernatural story; it’s the start of a series but I don’t think I…

Had to make some edits

Had to make some edits

I was wrong in my previous post when I said there weren’t any major upheavals in my life last year. There was one, and it happened at Christmas. It meant I had to make a few category adjustments here.

Hello, there. It’s been awhile.

Hello, there. It’s been awhile.

The Barry Manilow song, “I’d Really Love To See You Tonight”, now becomes an earworm in my head, if no one else’s. I can’t say there’s been major upheavals in my life since I last updated this blog/archive. Just a continuing sense of both malaise and frustration, mostly over my writing mojo and the continuing disability in my hands that makes the mechanics of typing worse as time goes by. It’s gotten to the point where I now use a…

NaNoWriMo is done.

NaNoWriMo is done.

End of an era really. I got an email about the shutdown today. Anyone who has participated should get the same soon. If you want to download your synopses and word counts, I suggest Trackbear as a good method; it will help with future writing, too. I also suggest screenshots of any cover art you may have. Goodbye, NaNoWriMo. You were fun while you lasted.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Yeah, it’s New Year’s Eve here still, but it’s time for an update, I think. Please excuse my tone; I’m feeling really down at the moment. 2024 was painful, in more ways than one. I had surgery in March to remove all the reproductive plumbing (growing fibroids had filled the unused spaces and were clinging on the outside.) Then I loom knitted two really nice afghans within four months. One was a commission from my mother-in-law and the other was…

Taking a minute from my busy holiday schedule.

Taking a minute from my busy holiday schedule.

And it is a busy one! I’ve got several projects going at once, most of them still in progress or not even started! On top of that, I have a wound in my foot for which I’m under weekly treatment. For a while, that meant an actual cast with a protective boot so I could stay mobile. It was… problematic, to say the least. (I have no house elves or brownies to help with the housework.) I’ve been upgraded to…

True story time! On my way to pick up the hubby yesterday and I noticed the woman in the car behind mine at the stoplight taking a picture. I have a “Cat Moms Vote” magnet on the back of the car and I think, “Why is she taking a picture? Is it the magnet?” I live in a deep red district of South Carolina, so this could be good or bad. At the next stoplight, she takes another picture. I…

No NaNoWriMo

No NaNoWriMo

Not for me. Not this year, anyway. As a former ML (Municipal Liaison), I’ve heard a lot about what’s been going on since last November’s challenge. I stepped back earlier this year because of burnout but had full intentions of participating in November. But… things have changed. Too many things. I’m soured on the current iteration of the organization and, truthfully, can’t see how it will make it past this November. If you want to know more, check out nanoscandal.com.

Helene update.

Helene update.

Some of you may know that I live in the northwest corner of South Carolina. Well, a hurricane came through about 10 days ago. She hit us hard — not as bad as Western North Carolina — but hard enough to cause flooding, uproot trees, and leave us in the dark for a week. Even now, my cable company is still working on restoring service to the area. (I’m using my phone’s hotspot on my tablet to write this. Its…
