It’s been awhile…

It’s autumn, my favorite time of year. The temperatures are cooler; the trees are slowly changing color. Today, my husband and youngest son are taking the air conditioners out of the windows. I’ve brought in my long pants. I’ve lost more weight since last fall and some of my jeans are going to Goodwill soon. NaNoWriMo is next month and I’m one of three Municipal Liaisons for our region. For once, I have a basic plan for my writing. Right…

Tweaks and tails

Tweaks and tails

Had to take a couple of hours to tweak all the links involved in The White Winds so navigation from chapter to chapter works right. It’s hard because the chapters are automatically numbered at both fanfiction.net and AO3 but I haven’t been doing that here. I probably should, simply to make it clearer. I plan on updating chapters here on Mondays and Thursdays, just to be consistent. Readers at AO3 like it and though they could read the whole thing…

That I’ve been posting more of The White Winds lately. Not so much for this site but for my account at AO3 (An Archive Of Our Own). Some of my followers there have been asking for it and I’m finally in a head-space to oblige. Life has been depressing lately. I’ve fallen four times this year; not bad enough to break anything, but painful enough for me to start using my cane more consistently. I’ve had to add a nephrologist…

I’m a Hugo Award winner… sort of…

Just found out today that An Archive of Our Own (or AO3 for short) has won a Hugo Award for “Best Related Work”. Yes, the entire site won! And since I post there, I share in the award! I would love a little lapel pin reproduction of the Hugo Award rocket to commemorate the win. In other news, writing has been slow to non-existent lately. I’m not sure why; I’m still getting ideas but I’m having trouble putting my butt…

Questions you may have…

Did I reach my word count for Camp NaNoWriMo? Uh, no. I didn’t. (Which is part of the reason I’ve taken over a month to update anything.) The story I set myself to, after finishing the Flash fanfic, just gave me no joy. It’s a story I want to tell but I may have taken too long to tell it. I mean, The White Winds finished in 2010 and this was supposed to be a sequel. It may be too…

Fall is here, or is it?

Fall is here, or is it?

That’s what I keep asking myself every time I go outside. Yes, the calendar says, “Autumn!” My outdoor thermometer says, “Summer!” One good thing about autumn is National Novel Writing Month (aka NaNoWriMo). Jo, my co-Municipal Liaison (read regional volunteer), and I will be making plans and setting dates for the various write-ins and parties that go with “30 Days of Literary Abandon!” This year we have four branches of the Greenville County Library System offering our members space to…

Found a shortcut!

Found a shortcut!

With the HTML function down at fanfiction.net, I’ve had to find a different way to upload and edit my chapters. Up until now, I would load my HTML to An Archive of Our Own, edit it there, and then replace the original copy in my .txt file with the edits. This worked fine, until suddenly there was no more shortcut at fanfiction.net.

Beginning to get the hang of this theme thing

Beginning to get the hang of this theme thing

I’ve been quiet over the past months as I’ve worked on this site on and off. My goal is to shape this into my writer’s platform, using it to eventually promote my fantasy fiction–eventually being the operative word here. I’m going┬áto replace my personal fanfiction site with this one, too. The original has served me well; unfortunately, my coding skills are not the best and it’s beginning to break down on the actual story pages. The one-shots and smaller chapter…

Warm fuzzies

Warm fuzzies

I received an email today from a reader who lives in Australia. She wanted to thank me for writing The White Winds and for being an influence on her own writing. She said… …although you had no idea you were doing it, even just reading your stuff taught me the importance of making sure all your facts are right, that you spelling and editing is good, and that it doesn’t matter how long it takes you writing something as long…
