Blue dot

True story time! On my way to pick up the hubby yesterday and I noticed the woman in the car behind mine at the stoplight taking a picture. I have a “Cat Moms Vote” magnet on the back of the car and I think, “Why is she taking a picture? Is it the magnet?” I live in a deep red district of South Carolina, so this could be good or bad. At the next stoplight, she takes another picture. I…

Helene update.

Some of you may know that I live in the northwest corner of South Carolina. Well, a hurricane came through about 10 days ago. She hit us hard — not as bad as Western North Carolina — but hard enough to cause flooding, uproot trees, and leave us in the dark for a week. Even now, my cable company is still working on restoring service to the area. (I’m using my phone’s hotspot on my tablet to write this. Its…

Big changes coming…

Big changes coming…

In about twelve hours it will be official: Hubby and I will be well on our way to becoming empty-nesters. The Girl and Son #2 have been occupying the other two bedrooms since our move here in 2000. (Son #1 moved out for university and never looked back. He now returns for short visits.) They are both adults, well past the age that Hubby and I were when we married. A few months ago, the Girl rescued a mama cat…

“Take this as a sign…”

While shopping at Aldi today, I met a young woman with purple hair. Now, I’ve dyed my hair a dark blue and have kept it up since late May, so when I complimented her choice of color, she responded in kind. I also noticed a tattoo on her right forearm and asked what it was. She held up her arm for me to see. It was a tattoo of the moon, lined up in its phases. “Wow! You recognized it!…

Finally poking some of my old fics

Finally poking some of my old fics

Yes, it’s well past time I did this. I’m editing my older fanfics for posting here and, eventually, at AO3, starting with Serendipity. This means I get to show off the pencil fanart done back in the day by my friend, MathGirl. I’m also looking at my all-but-abandoned WIPs with an eye to continuing/finishing them. Chapter 28 of Overtures is on my plate next, I think, though I should reread the rest of the arc before I finish that. (Hence,…

I’m a Hugo Award winner… sort of…

Just found out today that An Archive of Our Own (or AO3 for short) has won a Hugo Award for “Best Related Work”. Yes, the entire site won! And since I post there, I share in the award! I would love a little lapel pin reproduction of the Hugo Award rocket to commemorate the win. In other news, writing has been slow to non-existent lately. I’m not sure why; I’m still getting ideas but I’m having trouble putting my butt…

Playing around…

Playing around…

I was tired of the old theme and decided to change it up a bit. I hope you like it! Also haven’t been writing much, either. We’ve had a death in the family, illnesses, and accidents, including one involving me and our now-totaled truck. (I miss it!) The new SUV is okay; it’ll hold the whole family for a trip north when necessary. My plan is to try Camp NaNoWriMo again to get me writing anything. On alternating days, I’m…

Resolutions–at last

Resolutions–at last

I’ve taken my own sweet time trying to figure out some New Year’s resolutions for myself this year. I’ve a bad habit, as many people have, of making resolutions and promptly breaking them. But I think I have a couple this year that I can stick with. One, is to try and get back with FlyLady. When I was working with her system, my house stayed cleaner and my life felt better organized. I’d like that feeling again. Two, to…

A quiet little milestone

A quiet little milestone

The Girl got her beginner’s permit today. She needed it by tomorrow for Driver’s Ed, so when she got home from school, we boogied on up to the Dept. of Motor Vehicles so she could take the "Knowledge Test". I’d already printed out the necessary forms and had filled in (with typing where possible) the information. Before we left, we double-checked all the identification she had to bring with her: Social Security card, birth certificate, and proof of residency (in…

Lots to catch up on

Lots to catch up on

School’s back in session as of Tuesday. Boy #1 enters high school and the Girl begins her senior year.   The Girl passed both her AP exams.   I have a new laptop.   We had a lovely week in Michigan with Hubby’s family. All of it, from all corners of the globe.   And I’ve changed my permissions on this space due to a two-week long email imbroglio with an old acquaintance. I won’t describe it in detail, suffice it to…
